コカコーラとアメリカ

十数年前だがアメリカに居たころ、コーラがとても安いのに驚いた。缶コーラ（冷えたもの）が５０￠で買えたのだ、当時で７０円程だったかな、日本では１００円以上していた様に記憶している。冷えていないものは３０円程で買えるのだから嬉しかった。
写真はクリスマス限定バージョンのコカコーラ、瓶の周りに薄いプラスティックのコーティングがして有ります。

安いラジオを買って聞いていた放送局、キクシーと言う名の放送局で９６．５Mｈｚ、ノスタルジックな局ばかり流している局なのだった。ラジオの感度が悪く幸運にも？その局が一番良く聞こえたのもあるのだが、毎日かけっぱなしでいた。

この局は日本語訳で歌われてヒットしましたが、どういう訳か3番が無いのです。原曲の3番はとても悲しいストーリーの結末なのだ。
死刑囚が前夜に子供のころの夢を見て目が覚めてしまう。ふるさとの景色や、以前の彼女、父母の姿、子供のころ上った大きな樫木も昔のままに何も変わってはいなかったけれど、私は明け方には処刑されるのだ。
そんな歌ですが、メロディーと歌詞の絶妙なバランスが心に残ります。

３番：そのとき私は目を覚まし、私を取り囲んでいる灰色の壁を見回す。私は夢を見ていたのだ。なぜなら、そこに看守と悲しげな様子の老神父がいた。明け方には、私は腕をとられて、彼らとともにに歩いていく。そしてまた、ふるさとの青々とした草に触れる。
